Heather Baker
Persuasive Business Writing
Assistants’ emails are very often sent to persuade people to do something: attend a meeting, send information, support a cause and much more. It is possible simply to ask, but how much better if we can use persuasive techniques to improve the chances of a positive response.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this session attendees will understand:
- How communications work.
- Ways to avoid ineffective business clichés.
- How to get people’s interest.
- That small changes to sentences can make a big difference.
About Heather
After over 20 years working as a secretary and then a PA, Heather established Baker Thompson Associates in 2000 to enable office professionals to achieve their potential for their career development and the success of their organisation.
All her sessions are very much discussion-based to ensure relevance to attendees’ specific needs. The training is informal and relaxed and is aimed at building delegates’ confidence and appreciation of their value, as well as enhancing their skills. Courses are endorsed by the Institute of Administrative Management and CPD Certified, whether face-to-face or online.
Heather now travels around the world meeting PAs, EAs and administrators of all levels and from all types of companies.
She is the author of four Amazon top ten selling books and the creator of the BakerWrite speedwriting system. Heather is also an NLP Practitioner, TAP cert trainer and 3 years winner of the North West Enterprise Awards Best Administrative Staff Training Provider. She is also nominated for a National Business Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Heather is proud to be a Prince’s Trust Business Mentor and a supporter of Isipho Admin in South Africa.
Kit Jackson
Making a Strategic Contribution as a Business Partner
How can I stay relevant and resilient in this time of change? It’s a question we should all be asking ourselves. Business partners are increasingly expected to make a strategic contribution to remain highly valued and a strategic mindset is a key part of that. It starts with ourselves. This is another instance of where “putting on your own oxygen mask before assisting others” is really important. Every conscious choice that we make has its birthplace in the way we think, and the resulting action and behaviour can have a significant impact on our own and others’ experience and outcomes.
In this session Kit will explore how to create a whole-of-life strategy map of conscious choices, aligned to our aspirations and congruent with our values. This will include strategic priorities for self, relationships with others and at work. When we are clear on our personal strategic choices and impact, we are better positioned to be a great strategic partner making a highly valued contribution to your executive and organisation.
Learning Outcomes
- Learn how to stay relevant and resilient in times of change.
- Learn how to create your own whole-of-life strategy.
- Learn to be a valued Strategic Partner to your Executive.
About Kit

Several of Kit’s clients are named to the BSC Hall of Fame for Executing Strategy.
Kit has a long association with Robert Kaplan and David Norton and played an instrumental role in evolving their initial balanced scorecard from a performance measurement and management tool into a strategy management tool. She then pioneered the concept of Managing by Strategic Themes – creating cross-functional, cross-organisational “theme teams” charged with managing strategy execution and ensuring interdependencies. This concept, along with its methodology and practices, represents one of the most pivotal developments in the evolution of strategy execution.
Kit is an accredited coach and facilitates people to develop and put into practice their personal leadership strategies, making conscious choices to balance priorities for self, relationships with others and working commitments, using the Strategy Together Personal Strategy MapÔ methodology.
Through her work as a governor of Claremont Fan School, and Strategy Faculty Lead for Homeward Bound her mission is to equip people to lead, influence & shape the future of our lives, our organisations, our society and our planet. She is a courageous mother to 2 wonderful sons.
Helen Monument
Monumental You
Control – or lack of it – was a buzz word in 2020. The Pandemic hit us and we all felt that things were slipping through our fingers. We’re not out of the woods yet, but for 2021, we should be thinking about how we can hit the ground running when we reach CrExit (Corona Exit).
The World Economic Forum has predicted that by 2025, the demand for Executive & Administrative Assistants will decrease because of a shift in the division of labour between humans and machines. Problem-solving, self management and working with people will be amongst the top 10 skills in 2025. So we need to be at the top of our game if we are to survive.
Helen has developed a five step programme called Monumental You, to help get you there and to be the best you can be.
BE | PROTECT | SHARE | CONNECT | LEAD
She will share with us a taste of each of the five steps to how we can take personal accountability to upskill ourselves.
Learning Outcomes
Discover how to take control of your life by:
- Growing your authenticity.
- Increasing your resilience.
- Extending your sphere of influence.
About Helen
Helen Monument inspires and encourages Assistants to be the best they can be, by sharing 30 years of experience as a management support professional. Helen has worked at international companies including Dow Chemical and Shell. Her career has taken her through many stages, from Secretary to Office Manager and Business Support Team Leader, so she understands the profession inside out.
Through her company, Monumental Assistance, Helen is passionate about giving back to the profession that created so many wonderful opportunities for her to develop by ‘paying it forward’ all over the world as a trainer, coach and speaker. In 2021, she launched Monumental You, an exclusive five-step, live, online programme for a small group of committed participants who are passionate about learning and enhancing their personal and professional development to be the best they can be.
A former Executive Chairman of IMA (International Management Assistants), Helen is also the Interim Chair of the World Administrators Alliance, representing Administrative Professional Associations and Networks across the globe. The aim of this global community is to guide, influence, develop and elevate the Administrative Profession and to enable Admins the world over to speak with one voice.
British-born Helen lives in The Netherlands and spends her free time reading, walking and enjoying culinary delights served up by her husband Robert.
